Find me

Saturday, April 02, 2005

I walked in to the studio this morning.

It was a beautiful day and I thought I would enjoy it. So I took my time and stopped in a few stores. I stopped by the Toys R Us just before it opened. There was a crowd of maybe thirty people lined up to get in.

My first thought was that they were lined up to get the new Playstation Portable. Don't ask my why I thought a week after it launched people would still be waiting in line to get one. It's what was on my mind as I walked in. It's what I went in there for. PSP games.

Well as I make my way in, I notice that most of the traffic is concentrated to the left of the front door. As soon as I get close enough it clicks. I see the giant Darth Vader poster. Today was the day Ep 3 toys go on sale. I didn't care much. Star Wars doesn't hold sway over me like it used to. Thank the new movies for that. I did sit there and ponder the General Grievous figure, but ended up not getting it.

The collectivitis was huge in that crowd. They're definitely not at all similar to the women you would see at a close-out or clearance aisle. Well, the stereotype of the woman in a clearance aisle anyway. Oh sure, the collector geeks are pretty grabby, but they're very polite about it. Some guy was reaching for a toy that I had my eye on. But he actually asked me first if I was going to get it, before he grabbed it. I think he waited .002 seconds for a reply before he snatched it from the wall mount.

As I made my way further down geary, I made a right at powell and stepped into EB Games to check what they had for the PSP. I realised something at that point. Games have now taken over as the thing I collect. I've got a ton of games in my "collection" that I haven't even played yet. They're just "collecting" dust.

I guess I will never get over my own collectivitis.
